Silver Knight™ anti-microbial breathing systems

Silver Knight™ anti-microbial breathing systems provide an additional weapon in the fight against potential cross contamination in the operating room.
Silver Knight contains an anti-microbial additive that uses silver-ions to disrupt the normal enzymatic activities of bacteria. It functions as a safe, quick and effective catalyst to deactivate pathogenic bacteria and prevent their proliferation.

For COVID-19 patients, the disposal of breathing systems on a single-use basis has been recommended for all known diagnosed cases.  As elective surgery restarts despite the known risk posed by the COVID-19 this may not always be practical or affordable across the entire patient population undergoing surgical procedures. The adoption of Silver Knight, along with appropriate breathing filters, provides a further opportunity to improve care and patient protection and reduce the risk of cross infection for routine general anaesthesia.

To find out more about how Silver Knight can help reduce the risk of cross infection, visit our website product page, view the video or review the supporting information sheet.

2020 Calendar Competition – August’s Winning Entry!

Julie Lehman of County Hospital, Stafford takes August’s spot in our 2020 calendar.

Julie won our 2018 Calendar Competition and we were delighted that she entered again with a photo of the hospital grounds where she works - a place where Julie takes ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ which was the theme for last year’s competition.

Breathing systems and infection control

As elective surgeries slowly resume, following the COVID-19 peak, there are continuing infection control challenges.
Breathing systems and all the disposable medical devices used to deliver general anaesthesia play an important role in the reduction of cross-contamination when used appropriately, and in accordance with the local, national or international guidelines.

Intersurgical offers a range of high-quality single-use breathing systems, available in different lengths, configurations and tube types for your clinical requirements.

Exhibition events 2020

An update regarding Intersurgical’s attendance at exhibitions in 2020.

As a global medical supplier of products essential in the treatment of patients affected by COVID-19, we have a responsibility to protect the health of our staff, NHS staff and prevent the spread of the virus.
In order to stay fully functional as a company and continue to supply products into hospitals to help in the fight against COVID-19, we have taken the difficult decision not to attend any exhibition events for the remainder of 2020.

2020 Calendar Competition – July’s Winning Entry!

Duncan Robjohns of Manchester University Foundation Trust takes July’s spot in our 2020 calendar.

When entering Duncan explained why his photo was perfect for the ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ competition, “This was taken on 24th December in Yorkshire near the Gliding club. The air was crisp, the sky was clear, and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside filled my lungs with fresh air.” We felt it was the perfect image for July.

Facing the challenge - Reducing the Risk

Intersurgical’s FiltaMask is designed to reduce the risk to paramedics, hospital staff and visitors.
The Intersurgical FiltaMask™ combines an oxygen delivery system with a filter media covering the exhalation ports. FiltaMask is intended for use on patients with respiratory infections who may be a source of aerosolised infectious pathogens and who also require supplementary oxygen.

Patients with respiratory infections have specific needs and yet pose a specific risk. Conventional oxygen masks can generate a plume of particles from their exhalation ports, which can travel a distance of 0.4 metres[1][2] resulting in a potential risk.

The Intersurgical FiltaMask is designed to reduce the risk to paramedics, hospital staff and visitors[3].
Features and benefits include:
• Incurved face seal providing improved level of fit and comfort
• On-chin positioning providing a better fit to a wider range of face shapes
• Low elastic position eliminating trauma to the patient's ears
• Integral filter media reducing the risk of escaping aerosols

New i-view™ video laryngoscope instructional video

A short instructional video is now available for the i-view video laryngoscope.
The video provides a useful guide and overview of the i-view and an introduction to the basic steps for correct use.
With many COVID-19 protocols recommending the use of video laryngoscopy for patients who require intubation, the  i-view provides the option of a single use, fully disposable video laryngoscope with a standard Macintosh blade, making it ideal for use where there is a concern regarding infection control.

The video is available on the dedicated i-view page, product pages and Education video page.

If you have any further questions about this product, please contact us.
