New respiratory hood video

Our updated video for the CaStar R NIV hood is now available.
Featuring the latest design hood and describing the best use of the new sealed access ports, our new video can be viewed on our product page, education page and also on our dedicated StarMed landing page.

Respiratory hoods have been identified as an optimal tool for reducing the risk of cross infection, and one of the most popular products is the CaStar R NIV hood.

Generally used on a mechanical ventilator for delivering NImV (non-invasive mechanical ventilation), CaStar R is a versatile interface that can also be used to provide optimal CPAP therapy via a constant flow generator and a mechanical PEEP valve. Owing to the semi-closed environment design and the virtually leak-free seal, all expired gas from the patient is evacuated from the internal volume through the expiratory limb of the hood, which can be fitted with a bacterial/viral filter.  To enable the CaStar R hood to be used for a variety of applications, please view the NIV hoods accessory website page.

2020 Calendar Competition – December’s Winning Entry!

Alastair Jakeman from York Teaching Hospital takes December’s spot in our 2020 calendar.
When we saw Alastair’s entry to our 2020 competition, we thought it looked like a Christmas card. Alastair had captured the perfect frosty morning by the South Bank of the River Tweed, a welcome sight to kick off the winter months.

2020 Calendar Competition – November’s Winning Entry!

Lee Blackman of Salford Royal takes November’s spot in our 2020 calendar.

This orange skyline photo caught our eye and we thought it a familiar sight for November and a good fit for the calendar theme ‘A Breath of Fresh Air!’

Reduce the pressure

View our products that could help reduce pressure sores

We are proud to support the European Pressure Ulcer Panel (EPUAP) by raising awareness of pressure ulcers.

A pressure ulcer is a localised injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear. A number of contributing or confounding factors are also associated with pressure ulcers; the significance of these factors is yet to be elucidated1.

Intersurgical provides two products that can help reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers on the ear: the Intersurgical EcoLite™ face mask range and nasal cannula with ear guards.

The Intersurgical EcoLite™ adult oxygen range features an extra chin section incorporating two integral seals ensuring that the mask fits a wide range of face shapes. The mask's retaining elastic can be fitted either above or below the patient's ear depending on the patient's face shape. In the preferred below ear position it eliminates the discomfort and longer-term trauma created by elastic sitting on top of the patient's ears.

Our nasal cannula with ear guards is designed to prevent trauma to the patient's ears thanks to the soft silicone foam cushions, which are easily adjusted and securely fitted.

Visit our dedicated page to watch videos on the products features and benefits, and find out more about these ranges.

2020 Calendar Competition – October’s Winning Entry!

Nigel Parsons of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust takes October’s spot in our 2020 calendar.
Nigel’s photograph was taken in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park near Aberfoyle, Scotland and perfectly captures the changing of the seasons. We thought this stunning picture was the perfect fit for the month of October and a brilliant representation of ‘A Breath of Fresh Air!’, which is this year's calendar theme.

i-view™ video laryngoscope, tracheal intubation and COVID-19

Throughout the pandemic there has been much discussion regarding the best way to manage the airway of patients with COVID-19. In a new blog post, our Airway Group Product Manager, David Chapman, investigates the use of the i-view™ video laryngoscope in videolaryngoscopy for tracheal intubation in the context of Coronavirus.

The article looks at the latest guidelines regarding airway management, the potential benefits of single use devices in the context of infection control and what advantages videolaryngoscopy may have to offer over direct laryngoscopy for tracheal intubation.

Access to the article can be found on the blog itself, plus through the 'Interact with us' section of the i-gel® supraglottic airway website.

The i-view™ video laryngoscope is a single use, fully disposable video laryngoscope, providing the option of video laryngoscopy wherever you might need to intubate.
